The menu works with a keyboard and screen readers, keeps focus visible and respects your system's reduced motion setting. It helps visitors adjust pages. It does not make a website WCAG or ADA compliant. The eye test is a screening, not a medical diagnosis; for a diagnosis, see an eye care professional.
Accessibility basics (W3C guide, opens in a new tab)How to use
How to use the colour blind filter, text size and read aloud
LasMind Vision is a colour blind filter and reading menu. It recolours pages for deuteranopia, protanopia and tritanopia, changes text size, raises contrast and reads text aloud, including Hindi and Tamil in beta. A separate colour check looks at both eyes together (or each eye, if you choose) and can suggest settings. Everything stays on your device.
Step 01
Turn on the menu
Switch on Accessibility mode in the panel above, or from the Accessibility button at the top of any LasMind page. The colour blind filter, text size and read aloud only apply while the mode is on.
Tip: Both places share one set of settings, so a change in one shows up in the other.
Step 02
Choose a colour blind filter
Pick the vision type that matches how colours look to you: protanopia (red), deuteranopia (green), tritanopia (blue) or greyscale. Then move the correction strength until colours are easier to tell apart.
Tip: Not sure which one fits? Take the colour check in step 5 first.
Step 03
Change text size and high contrast
Use A- and A+ to change the text size between 90% and 150%, and A to go back to normal. Then switch on high contrast, underlined links, text spacing, reduced motion or focus indicators. Every change applies to the whole site straight away.
Step 04
Turn on read aloud
Switch on Read aloud on click, choose the meaning language, then click any text to hear it with text to speech. Technical words are explained in simple English, with Hindi and Tamil in beta.
Tip: Turn on the Spoken guide to hear short instructions while you use the settings.
Step 05
Take the colour check
It takes about 3 minutes, checks each eye on its own, and can apply suggested settings in one step. You can retake it or delete the result at any time.
Tip: It is a screening for red-green colour differences, not a medical diagnosis. For a diagnosis, see an eye care professional.
Step 06
Add the menu to your website
Install the @lasmind/website-accessibility package, or paste the script tag shown below the tool. Visitors get the colour blind filter, text size, high contrast and read aloud. The colour check is not part of the widget.
FAQ
Questions about the colour check and colour blind filter
Still stuck? Contact us and we'll help.
What is LasMind Vision?
A colour blind filter and reading menu. It adjusts colours for deuteranopia, protanopia and tritanopia, changes text size, raises contrast and reads text aloud. A separate colour check can suggest settings. There is no account.
Is the colour check a medical diagnosis?
No. It is a screening for red-green colour differences, and it checks both eyes together by default, or each eye separately if you choose. Screens are not calibrated like clinical test books. For a diagnosis, see an eye care professional.
Which types of colour blindness does the filter cover?
You can choose red colour blindness (protanopia), green colour blindness (deuteranopia), blue colour blindness (tritanopia) or greyscale, and set the correction strength. The colour check looks for red-green differences and can suggest protanopia or deuteranopia settings. Tritanopia and greyscale are chosen by hand.
Does read aloud work in Hindi and Tamil?
Read aloud uses your browser's built-in text to speech. Tech words can be explained in simple English, with Hindi and Tamil in beta, when your device has a voice for that language.
Where are my settings stored?
In your browser's local storage on this device. Your settings and colour check result are never uploaded to LasMind.
Does this menu make my website WCAG or ADA compliant?
No. It lets visitors change colour, text size, contrast and read aloud. It does not make a website WCAG or ADA compliant. The menu itself is keyboard friendly, labelled for screen readers, with visible focus and large touch targets.
How do I add this menu to my own website?
Install @lasmind/website-accessibility from npm and call init(), or add the script tag shown on this page. It works with any framework or none. The widget is the preference menu. The colour check stays on this site and in the LasMind Vision extension, because its results are health data.
Does it work on other websites?
On LasMind pages, yes. The LasMind Vision browser extension will bring the same settings and colour check to every website, and it syncs with this page. It is coming soon to the Chrome Web Store.
